Keep your room dark and quiet

Every night our bodies tell us when they are tired and need rest. But sleep is far more than rest. We all do it and we all know from personal experience that if we deprive our bodies of sleep we can feel horrible, uneasy and like we’re fighting our bodies to stay awake.

There are no rules about how much sleep each individual needs a night. Some require nine hours in order to feel refreshed in the morning, while others only need about 5 hours of sleep a night. Having a set sleep pattern is essential to feeling well rested. Withing a 24 hour span we should put our bodies to rest.

Although there are instances where we do not get enough sleep, you cannot make up for lost sleep. The best thing to do if you have been missing out on following a sleep pattern that helps you feel rested is to re-establish that pattern. The body can survive on four to five hours a night.

There are different kinds of sleepers to match each of the kinds of sleep. There are rough sleepers, light sleepers and deep sleepers. Rough sleepers are the kinds that toss around all night in bed. Light sleepers never really get into the REM sleep that is so necessary for resting our bodies. While deep sleepers tend to fall into a deep sleep that is hard to wake them from and they rarely move during their sleep time,

In today’s hectic world it’s interesting to see that people are beginning to think of sleep as a hobby. These people take sleep as much as they can get it and there is nothing they like more than snuggling into some blankets for a night of sleeping or a quick nap in the middle of the day.

Whichever kind of sleeper you are, there is no doubt that sleep is an important part of our lives. It is said that we spend about a third of our lives asleep. That seems like a lot when you look at the big picture, but for most of us with full lives and busy schedules, it’s hard to imagine that we are able to get that much sleep in.

Sleep Disorders:

There are many different kinds of sleep disorders. During the span of any lifetime all humans will go through a phase of disrupted sleep that could be linked to a specific sleep disorder. While there are all kinds, most are overcome by changing sleep patterns and one’s attitude about sleeping. There is no question that a well rested person is more productive and better adjusted than a sleep deprived person. But what are the different kinds of sleep disorders that can disrupt your life? Here’s a few:

Insomnia is the most popular of the sleep disorders. Really the term insomnia is a broad stroke that covers just about anyone who suffers an inability to fall asleep or remain asleep for a reasonable amount of time.

Bruxism is a condition where a person involuntarily grinds his or her teeth while asleep. This can cause pain in the mouth or headaches from the tension.

Sleep Apnea occurs when a person has some type of blockage in their air passages that makes it difficult for them to sleep at night. Most people suffering from sleep apnea snore and cannot get a full night’s rest because they are fighting for air all night.

Sleep walking occurs when people engage in conscious behaviors while they are sleeping. Sleep walkers may move from their bed to a couch or into the kitchen to eat without ever waking up.

Snoring is a sleep disorder that causes the sleeper to have loud breathing patterns while they are sleeping. This sleep disorder is one that can affect the sleeper, as well as their partner who may be woken up by the noise of the snoring next to them.

Night terror disorder occurs when the sleeper awakes abruptly from sleeping with the same behavior as if they were terrified. Night terrors are an extreme of nightmares and can sometimes cause physical harm to the sleeper or anyone sharing their bed.

If you are suffering from a sleep disorder, try to pinpoint what may be causing the disorder and speak to someone about how to solve it. Many times the cures come from taking a different approach to falling asleep or changes in your sleeping environment. For others like sleep apnea, there are surgeries that are available to help you achieve a better night’s rest.

Take the time to relax before you plan to go to sleep. Relaxing can sometimes be hard. You can go to chill spots where you can actually have time to relax and enjoy yourself. Take it easy.
